About CBT Carpet Recycling

In 2006, CBT Carpet Recycling recognized that landfill space is at a premium – and no one wants to expand landfills. As part of their sister company business at the Port of Cincinnati, CBT was forced to handle supersacks: huge bags of materials containing a variety of materials similar in composition to carpet fiber.

CBT Carpet Recycling looked at ways in which they could seek viable, alternative means of recycling this material. They realized that the cost of recycling is at parity with dumping. In addition, each person within a geographic area can potentially dispose of 5-7 lbs. of carpet material per year.

At the same time, emerging technology pointed to various ways in which recycled carpet material could be put back into the environment. The ability to merge this green initiative with creation of a market for post-consumer/industrial carpet led to CBT Carpet Recycling receiving a grant from the State of Ohio in 2007 towards the purchase of carpet recycling equipment.
